How Long to Cook Rice in Insta Pot

When cooking rice, a lot of things can go wrong. But not in this stupid easy recipe. Instant Pot, we ðŸ’–  you.

New to cooking with your Instant Pot? This is the perfect place to start. There's literally a "rice" button on it! But keep in mind, the button is only for white rice. If you're cooking brown rice, the rice button isn't the best. Instead, set the timer for 25 minutes on manual and high pressure. For long grain rice like jasmine and basmati, 10 minutes is perfect with the rice button.

Rinse your rice

We mean it! This may seem like a tedious, unnecessary step, but rinsing off the excess starch and debris with cold water means perfectly cooked rice that's never clumpy or gummy. Trust us, it's worth it. Your results will be much fluffier every time.

Nail the ratio

Unlike most rice recipes, the correct ratio for the Instant Pot is 1:1. This is for any kind of rice. If you are making 1 cup of drry rice use 1 cup of water or broth. So easy!

Add flavor early

Add olive oil (or the same amount of butter) and salt at the beginning for a delicious final product. The oil not only adds flavor, but coats the grains of rice so you don't end up with a clumpy mess. Once it's cooked, taste and adjust seasonings as necessary.

Let it rest

After the rice cooks, release the pressure naturally and let it sit, undisturbed, for 10 minutes. This allows the rice to steam, releasing it from the bottom of the pot, so you don't have to scrape it up! You'll have perfectly cooked, separate grains of rice.

Finally, keep in mind that 1 cup of dry rice makes about 3 1/4 cups of cooked rice. How awesome is that? Then serve as a side for your meal, or get creative. Our fave use for already-cooked rice is in fried rice!
